Full-time Lectuer in GIS and Advanced Geospatial Modeling (USA)

The Department of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning (UEP) at Tufts University is seeking a full-time lecturer in GIS and Advanced Geospatial Modeling to start September 1st, 2021.  UEP and Tufts value civic engagement, diversity among its faculty and students, and strongly encourages applications from women and members of underrepresented groups. The successful candidate will possess a strong competency in geospatial research methods, including GIS, spatial statistics, and advanced geospatial modeling. Required courses will include both Introductory GIS and Advanced GIS.  Depending on the candidate’s area of expertise, additional courses may include interactive web mapping, geospatial programming with python, remote sensing, field data collection, cartographic and data visualization techniques, and unmanned aircraft systems (drones), among others.  A candidate with additional expertise in a sub-field connected broadly to the department foci in urban planning, environment, public policy, sustainability, transportation, and/or social policy is also highly desirable. 

The candidate will be expected to teach the equivalent of six courses per academic year and participate in departmental and university service.  The candidate will also be provided the equivalent of a course release to serve as thesis advisor to master’s level graduate students.


Qualifications. A Ph.D. in GIS/geography, urban/regional planning, or environmental science are preferred, but doctoral degrees in related disciplines, such as biology, and civil and environmental engineering will also be considered. A strong record of teaching excellence in GIS is required. In addition, connections with professional associations and applied practice is highly valued.
